As there are very few people here, I always walk freely without leash but I either follow my master or look back on him every minute. On rare occasions, I would focus too intensively on my instinct so that I ran away. Once upon a fine day when the woods were covered with green leaves instead of snow, I smelled a deer and ran towards him in the woods. Normally the deer smell would quickly thin out and I would turn back to my master. But at that time, the smell got stronger as I approached. I ran down the valley and up to the top of the next hill, where I found a fresh body of a deer just died. Following my instinct, I munched the deer meet, while I heard repeatedly the loud voice of my master's daughter shouting; “Coty!! Come back.” This gave me the confidence that my master was still there where I had run off and I kept munching. Finally I was caught doing this by them and they were completely shocked. They immediately put me on leash and pulled me away from the dear body. [June 1 Thursday] Today, my master picked up a lady from the cats’ house where I used to go every morning about three weeks ago. He then drove to Hackensack hospital and dropped her and my mistress. (My master’s comment: The husband of our best neighbor friend fell down from the ladder and broke his left hip joint.) After driving around the hospital several times, he finally picked up my mistress from the hospital and drove further to the familiar Dunker Hook parking lot of the Saddle River Park. We went to the usual back path along the river and it goes without saying that I went into the river and sat in the water. On the way back, they dropped in Pine Hill Restaurant and took out again the Korean dishes, from which they gave all the delicious Kalbi meats to me. I ate them up. We then drove back to the hospital, picked up the lady and dropped her off her house, and drove further to the small hospital where I go very often. The familiar doctor came out smiling and examined my mouth. For dinner, I ate several slices of meat from another Kalbi lunch box, which they brought home. As my master’s daughter ate the box for her dinner, she tore up all the meats in the box and gave them to me.
[June 2 Friday] This morning, the same lady came to our house to ride on our car to the same hospital. From the hospital, we drove to Van Saun County Park and my master started to climb up the slope of the mountain path. I followed him half a way but felt it was too much for me, so that I stopped and gazed at him. He turned back and led me towards the pond. I walked along the pond on the flat path and also went in the small flat path in the woods for the first time. We came back to the car and my master drove to the dead end road where the mountain path ends, which we had at first started climbing and turned back. My master opened the car door but I did not feel like walking any more. Therefore, he had to drive around various streets to kill time before heading for the hospital again. At home, 4 gardeners came and planted a new tree in the front yard where the old dead tree had been pulled out about 2 weeks ago. As I watched them, heavy rain started to fall when they just finished the work. I had been given two bowls, one full of the boiled chicken meat that my master’s daughter tore up the day before yesterday and the other full of Kalbi meat that my master just tore up from the soup my mistress made a few days ago. But I had no appetite for either one. Instead, I begged my master for the food from the cat’s can. Fortunately, my master understood this and opened up my favorite Frisky beef and liver entrée can. I ate about half of it leaving the other two bowls untouched. For dinner, I ate almost all the bowl of Kalbi meat that my master gave me for lunch. I did not touch the bowl of chicken from the day before yesterday or the left-over from the cat’s can. [June 3 Saturday] This morning, we picked up the lady from her cats’ house and sent her to the Hackensack hospital. This time from the hospital, my master drove back a half way to Costco Place and let his wife do the shopping, while he parked his car in front of the Hackensack Water Walkway and let me walk there. I used to walk here as a bonus after I had completed my usual one-hour walk in the woods while my mistress was shopping at Costco. This time, I could hardly make one round on the Walkway. While we were driving back to the hospital, it started to rain hard but stopped raining when we were driving Route 46 back from the hospital. Therefore, they decided to leave me in the car and go to their favorite Korean restaurant in Palisades Park. It goes without saying that my master brought back two lunch boxes full of Korean barbecue meat called Chadolbegi. Earlier in the morning, he cut off Kalbi and chicken meat my mistress cooked two days ago and gave it to me after the walk. But I had no appetite for it, which was the reason he chose to go to this restaurant and brought almost all the meat for me. I ate what was in these two lunch boxes, one in a car and the other at home. For dinner, I had no appetite and skipped it. Besides, I did something very unusual in the evening. As it was so humid, I went down to the basement alone in the dark and lied down at the place where I always stay when my master listens to classic music in the basement. Not that I understand classic music, but it is dry and cooler down in the basement. However, this was the very first time I went down alone without following my master. Surprised to find me in the dark, my master decided to stay with me and enjoyed one of his favorite classic operas with me.
[June 4 Sunday] In the morning, as I wanted to eat something, my master opened up my favorite cat’s can. I tried to eat some but I stopped eating as it did not taste well. Therefore, before starting for our daily walk, my mistress cooked the thin slices of beef that she had bought yesterday. After cutting them into small pieces, she put them into my bowl. I ate one bowl of the meat. We then drove to Mitsuwa Place and parked the car along the river. From there, we walked along the Hudson River Walkway up to the back of Edgewater Common buildings. On the way, I walked past 4 Canadian goose families with babies twice but they did not run away into the river. As we were preparing to drive home, a red car tried to park in front of us and hit the front of our car. As the red car tried to run away, my master’s daughter and the driver got into a big quarrel. Fortunately, there was no big damage on our car but she deplored the low moral of drivers these days. After the walk, I ate another bowl of thin beef slices that my mistress made for me. For dinner, I ate one more bowl of the same thin beef slices and a few pieces of Alpo Variety snaps as well as some small-grain try food for cats.
